Mission Hills is one of San Diego’s oldest and most prestigious neighborhoods. Historic homes dating to the early 20th century, designed by famous architects that contributed to the beginnings of San Diego’s growth into a major city, grace the tree-lined streets of this near-urban neighborhood.  Mission Hills real estate also includes countless homes with a historical designation under the city of San Diego.

These days, Mission Hills is home to many families whose history in San Diego dates back generations, as well as well-heeled newcomers who are drawn to the area for its walkability, parks, and proximity to restaurants and the San Diego International Airport.

Pete Middleton and the Pete Knows Real Estate Team have been helping homebuyers find their dream home in neighborhoods like Mission Hills for over 20 years. With some $400 million in residential real estate under our belts, it’s clear why over the past two decades we have built a reputation as one of San Diego’s premier real estate firms. The Pete Knows Team takes pride in serving our customers to their utmost need – and you can be certain that real estate deal happens in Mission Hills that is not on our radar.

Current listing prices for homes in Mission Hills range from $500,000 for a small 2-bedroom bungalow, to over $4,000,000 for Spanish-style estate homes on the western edge of the neighborhood.  As you move west in Mission Hills along Sunset Blvd. and Fort Stockton Dr., the homes and lots increase in size.  The very western edge of Mission Hills is Presidio Park, and the views extend from the bluff out across the airport, Point Loma, and San Diego Bay and Coronado Island.

A typical day for a family living in Mission Hills might include a walk down to the corner of Fort Stockton Dr. and Goldfinch Street for coffee at the Messuggah Shack, and a brunch at local favorite Farmer’s Bottega.  A visit to the Mission Hills nursery, which has been continually serving the area with plants and flowers for over 100 years, might be the next stop.  Later, after a visit to Mission Hills Park or Pioneer Park, which dates back to the 1800’s and still contains tombstones and graves from some of San Diego’s earliest settlers.

As the afternoon fades to the early evening, locals flock to hip restaurants like the Patio and Brooklyn Girl for cocktails and appetizers.  A nightcap in the form of an outdoor movie at the neighborhood’s “Cinema Under the Stars” where a sole proprietor plays contemporary films as well as old classics is the perfect end to a night out in Mission Hills.

Mission Hills Schools

Mission Hills is home to many young families, and the neighborhood has several schools. These include the public Grant Elementary, which serves K-8th grade and is part of the San Diego Unified School District.  Also nearby are the Mission Hills Pre-School, St. Vincent’s School (pre-8th grade), and the renowned Francis Parker lower school, a private independent school founded in 1912.
